Textile Sculpture comes to the W.I.
We were excited to bring our Figure Sculpture Workshop to Denman College, the renown craft college of the W.I. for the first time this May. As the course was to run over a weekend, we also added in a little something extra, with not only one sculpture being created, but two.
On the Friday evening there was a general introduction to Powertex products, a chance to see some examples of work & ask questions, & each lady chose the plaster head that they wanted to use on their sculptures before having the rest of the evening at leisure.
The following morning we built our figure armatures ready for wrapping, & then had a go at starting a second armature, this time made from fencing wire. As the day progressed, the figure sculptures were wrapped & dressed & the wire armatures turned into 4 mermaids, a frog & a pixie. The ladies had all earned a leisurely evening after all that hard work!
Sunday morning was spent finishing the wire framed characters & adding pigment colour to complete all the beautiful sculptures that had been made over the weekend.
The next scheduled workshop at Denman College is our Introduction to Stone Art in December 2016, but given the reaction of not only the students on the course, but also all the visitors to our room to see what we were doing, we hope to be invited back to Denman for another Figure Workshop soon...
