Getting in the Holiday Mood for 2019!
I’m so excited to be able to start the New Year with some amazing news! I am able to offer a five-day Cornish ‘artistic retreat’ Art Holiday in September 2019. This is a dream I’ve had since setting up Artistic ReTreats and with the purchase of our inspirational cottage and studio in West Cornwall last year, the dream is turning into reality.
The advantage of a five-day holiday is that we can explore even more Powertex techniques and products well away from the distractions of home and the clock. This course is ideal for people who like to explore their interests alone or for a couple of friends who love to share their experiences.
What we will do
Whether you’ve worked with me on a Powertex project before or are completely new to the medium, this course will give you all the tools and techniques to create at least one masterpiece for the garden.
Taking inspiration from the lovely wooded valley surrounding our studio, over the five days we will create a woodland animal sculpture for your garden using Powertex, recycled textiles and mixed media. You will be able to work at your own pace under my guidance, using a range of techniques, such as:
- Simple armature building using everyday materials
- using Powertex universal medium
- choice of suitable materials for sculpting
- exploration & creation of texture
- mixing air-drying clay
- mixing pigments
- dry brushing techniques
Our glorious location
During the 5 day course, there will be time to relax in the picturesque gardens and explore the woodland around Valley View. Lamorna in West Cornwall is just 10 minutes walk from the coast and the stunning Lamorna Cove. The wooded valley has a babbling stream running down to the sea and is a haven for birds and other wildlife – the inspiration for our sculptures.
When is the Art Holiday?
The Woodland Animal Sculptures Art holiday will take place from Monday 23rd September to Friday 27th September 2019.
What is included in the art holiday?
As well as all the tuition, equipment and materials needed for your artwork, lunch will be provided every day by White Radish catering with delicious, locally sourced, grown and prepared food.
Also included is parking close to the Valley View studio and a trip to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens which is situated in a sheltered valley not far from Penzance. Dramatic planting provides a backdrop for some inspirational works of art, including pieces by renowned artists such as James Turrell & David Nash. The gardens also have stunning views across Mounts Bay to St Michael's Mount.
Students will need to arrange their own transport and accommodation (there is plenty available nearby) and lunch at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens.
