My business keeps giving the life I love (& you could do it to...)
Over the past couple of years, lots of people have taken stock of their work life during and post-pandemic and are considering ‘going it alone’. I would highly recommend it!
After a challenging end to January (see my February newsletter), I’m very lucky to be able to take some time in February to get back on my feet, take stock and spend time with my family. I feel very fortunate to have the flexibility to step away from my business for emergencies and shift my priorities for a short while.
I’m so grateful to have built up Artistic ReTreats with the support of wonderful, understanding clients. For the first time since opening my own business eight years ago, I had to cancel a workshop for personal reasons. The flexibility that I now have has developed over the years of being my own boss and adapting my business to suit my family life.
When I left my job at Aston Martin 12 years ago, I needed and wanted a change of focus that would fit with my childcare needs and explore my passion for more arty pursuits. I was already making and selling textile art at craft fairs when I met Tracey, who later went on to set up Powertex UK. She introduced me to Powertex fabric hardener, which I instantly loved! I started making pieces for craft fairs using Powertex, & 2 years on I became Tracey’s first ‘guinea pig’ tutor to be trained.
Not only did I love the versatility of working with Powertex in my artwork, but I soon discovered that I absolutely loved teaching others – seeing them take their first steps to create something they’re pleased with. Powertex has become an integral part of my artistic journey and my business has grown around it ever since.
Supported by Powertex UK, I’m now able to train new tutors beginning their journey. I love being able to share my passion with others who are just setting out on a new change to their lifestyle. That’s the beauty of being a Powertex tutor – the role can be flexible and be as challenging as you wish.
I am so lucky that for the past eight years or so I’ve had the freedom to create workshops and private events, to sell products and train like-minded tutors. My business is my own, I keep everything I earn and work around my family and other Artistic ReTreats activities.
So, have you been thinking about a career or lifestyle change?
- Have you enjoyed a Powertex workshop and are looking for a new challenge in your life?
- Do you love creating arts and crafts and would like to share your expertise with others?
- Can you see yourself running occasional or regular workshops to suit your lifestyle?
Why not become a Powertex tutor? I would love to help you to run your own workshops, support you with business advice and offer you a great range of discounted products. Powertex gives you the opportunity to make a little extra money for holidays or a full-time career, whichever suits you.
With Artistic ReTreats, I’m grateful every day for creativity and experimentation, for art and inspiration, and of course for my wonderful family!
