Reconnecting with nature this Spring

I’ve recently spent a lovely few days at Valley View, my Cornish Artistic ReTreat in Lamorna and with a bit of Spring sunshine coming through, I was able to get out and about and enjoy the fabulous countryside.

As the earth seems to be waking up from Winter, with the first signs of new growth and colour from Spring flowers, it’s also a time for new beginnings and a new focus on goals for the year. On my Cornish walks I learnt more about the legends and myths of the area and how art plays such an important role in Cornwall’s heritage.

I certainly had a ‘spring’ in my step, feeling like nature was coming to life all around me. I took inspiration from the tiny green buds on the trees and the snowdrops peeking up. I love to collect natural items that could be incorporated into my artwork with a little help from Powertex. I try to take in all the activity and colour around the hedgerows and sometimes take photos of interesting forms and textures so that I can recreate them back in the studio.

Whilst Winter can be a time for hibernation and self-reflection, Spring is the season of fresh new beginnings. If you’re thinking about changes in your life, now is the time to follow those thoughts and clear out the old, tired routines that no longer work. Spring is a great time to experiment with new ideas and firm up what you want to achieve this year.

With time to clear your mind and think about any changes you’d like to make to your life, walking in nature is amazing in so many ways. Of course there’s the physical health benefits of moving our bodies more but walking also gives our energy a boost, relieves stress, improves our immune system and enhances our creativity.

I love walking in the countryside because no two walks are ever the same. We can add hills for a more strenuous walk, meet friends in the park for a more sociable walk or follow a guide to find out more about an area.

My favourite place to walk is down in the very far south west of Cornwall, along the rugged coastline and the sheltered woodlands. If you’d like to explore the beautiful surroundings from the comfort of our three bedroom Valley View home, there is still some availability in 2022, check out the details click here

This year will be filled with busy work and family life, but taking a walk (with or without your family) can help you cope with all the stresses life throws at us. Adventures are there to be had and memories are there to be made when you get out and about in nature this Spring.
