My happy place
With International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day in March, it’s a chance to take the limelight a little and turn some attention on me. This month, I’ve definitely been rediscovering my ‘Happy Place’ – sharing my love for Powertex and all things crafty with people at Artistic ReTreats workshops!
I had a lovely time with a mother and her teenage daughter creating a couple of figure sculptures with Powertex. They were very pleased with their figures and their fun little trip away which included an overnight stay.
From an intimate little workshop at the Artistic ReTreats studio, I then visited a local village hall to run a Fairy House workshop for a group of seven crafters. Their designs were as individual as they were, and we had a super time.
I donated a workshop voucher for my village prize draw and the winner came to the studio with a friend for a Mixed Media Canvas workshop. It was great to be able to show them how to work with Powertex and we also used Easy 3D Flex to give some lovely texture to their canvas designs. Easy 3D Flex continues to form cracks over a number of days, so the art works will change after the ladies had left the studio.
The workshops continued with my first Figure Sculpture session of the year at Ardington School of Crafts The busy all-day workshop was sold out and the whole group created some amazing figures, including a mermaid, a sitting girl, a Masai & a wizard!
Finally for this month, I visited a textile group in Bedford to give a talk and demonstration on Powertex and how it works with natural textiles to make a huge range of creative sculptures, canvases and all sorts! It was great to expand the group’s knowledge of textiles with something a bit different.
I relish all these types of wonderful workshops – certainly back in my Happy Place! I get totally immersed in the preparations, meeting new people, explaining how I use Powertex in my sculpture work and helping them to feel proud about creating something unique for themselves.
I feel very lucky to enjoy what I do so much. I’m always learning and sharing my skills along the way is so rewarding.
As a special treat, I’m heading down to Cornwall to complete another art course at the Newlyn School of Art, as my Christmas present from my husband. I’m really looking forward to learning more, we should never stop learning and developing new skills and knowledge.
